According to our friends at Apartment 613, this year’s Wed By Hand is Ottawa’s second annual “Alternative Wedding Show.” It will be held February 6, 2011, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Wed By Hand will showcase over 30 handmade, eco-friendly, and fair-trade exhibitors. There will be Do-It-Yourself workshops, nibbles (chocolate, cupcakes, and cake), drinks, and music mixed by Spins ‘n Needles DJ Jason Pelletier.

We’ve been told one of the exhibitors is making lavender simple syrup for “mocktails.”

The first 100 people to walk through the doors of the Glebe Community Center (175 Third Street) will get a swag bag.

Everyone attending is encouraged to participate in the on-site raffles and giveaways.

Date: Sunday February 6, 2011
Time: 10:00 am-5:00 pm (17:00)
Prince: $8 Single Ticket/$15 Double Ticket Online or $10 Single Ticket/$18 Double Ticket at the door.

Proceeds from the event will go to Ottawa’s Dress for Success chapter. Dress for success’ mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and access to career development tools.

The event is organized by Krista Leben and Robin Sidhu. If Krista Leben’s name sounds familiar, you may recognize her as the owner of and designer behind Urbanite Jewelry (@urbanitejewelry), someone whose innovative and worldly jewelry we’ve seen at many-a-craft show. She also writes for Apartment 613 from time to time.

Other participating exhibitors we are familiar with include talented baker Amanda (Mandy) Lunan (@Auntie_Loo) of Aunty Loo’s Vegan Bakery, supplier of chocolates for several fine food shops Crazy 4 Chocolate (@crazy4chocolat), wonderful cupcake bakers Little Cakes Cupcakes (@LitttleCakes), purveyor of all things fair trade Ten Thousand Villages (@villagescanada), and photographer Natalie Lyle of Natalie Lyle Photography.

Update: Koko Chocolates (@kokochocolates) will be at Wed By Hand. Amy of Splendid Events (@splendid_events) will be giving out samples of Koko Chocolates during her workshop.

Natalie has graciously given us a pair of tickets to Wed By Hand to give away.

Mild-mannered IT professional by day and food blogger by night, I founded foodiePrints with a single intention, to share my love of all things food. My first post shared a recipe. Many followed. Eventually, I learned Ottawa prepares and serves great food. Thereafter, I started meeting restaurateurs, chefs, cooks, farmers, and other local producers, all good people. Ideas for food-related content swirled in my head. foodiePrints grew into a place to put them. From exploring foreign and domestic cuisines to shopping for exotic ingredients and cobbling together my takes on dishes in my meager kitchen, there are stories to tell. Welcome to foodiePrints. Here, you will find stories about food and drink, cooking, and eating in Canada’s capital. Be it food-related or just food-for-thought, I hope you find something tasty here.
